In case you can’t tell from the hundreds of pictures and glowing talk of Mexico, we just got back from our long-awaited trip. We stayed in a resort outside of Tulum that was all inclusive. The all-inclusive part is what made us need this series of articles. We stayed keto the entire time, but in definite excess. Too much food, too much booze, and too much laziness. As we prepared to come home, we both looked at each other and said, “it’s time for a keto reset.”

How the Keto Reset Articles Will Work

Before I get into how our reset will unfold, I wanted to briefly mention how the articles will go. Today is the beginning article, or the starter on how we will make it happen. Next Monday will be an update blog followed by a wrap up on Monday three.

This should give everyone a good look at how we are turning back the clock on keto a bit to get our bodies back to the fat burning machines they need to be. But in all seriousness, this is essential to make us feel better. A week of excess eating and drinking takes a toll when you work to become in tune with your body.

What is a Keto Reset

For us a keto reset is getting back to the basics and cutting out the extras. We’re going to hit our macros as they should be. 70% fat, 20% protein, and 10% carbs. With that carb count never going above 20 grams a day. We will hit this with healthy high fat foods consisting of meats, cheeses, keto approved veggies, all natural ingredients, and whole foods.

Although we never came out of ketosis during our vacation, we took in a lot more protein than normal as well as alcohol. I hate the word cleanse but resetting to the basics of keto will get us back to our body running at its optimum. This will take down any inflammation we have gained and get rid of the extra water weight we have both put on.

The food was so damn good…

Sugar Alcohols and Tracking

Two other big things we will institute over the next two-weeks is tracking our food and cutting out sugar alcohol. Tracking is something we recommend to anyone starting out, but over time you will slowly get out of the habit as you get a sixth sense of how much your macros are each day. However, when you go over those numbers consistently and knowingly you will lose that sense. Putting pen to paper is the fastest way to get you back into the keto habit.

The other big one for us is limiting sugar alcohols. Keto treats are full of them. We have done many articles on the subject and will continue to as the uses for them grows. There is nothing unsafe, but it’s another thing for your body to contend with, so why not just cut them out for a bit. For me personally sugar alcohols have side effects, I don’t need that when I’m getting myself back on track.

Checks and Balances

We are normally big supporters of giving yourself some breathing room. Don’t be hard on yourself or it takes time are two of our biggest sayings. In this case however we are going to hold ourselves strictly accountable to the plan. We enjoyed our time and didn’t worry as long as we stayed in ketosis. For that pleasure we can at least stay clean for two weeks.

One check we won’t be doing is weight. I don’t know if I gained, and I don’t care if this makes me lose. I’m past the scale in my journey. The scale is positive until it’s not. The moment it brings you down, slide it under the vanity. It might be a cliché, but this is about health, not a number.
