Today’s list is answering a basic question that has a very complicated answer. What are the ingredients in coffee creamer? You know that powdery stuff that every office has to add some color and taste to your hot cup of get up and go. Also called whitener, it turns out you won’t find much in the way of real food when it comes to this chemical mess.

Today’s list goes from the least present ingredient to number one being the most used:

What are the Ingredients in Coffee Creamer?

9. Artificial Color – these come in to improve the overall look of the food, which is funny considering this is white powder. The man-made colors are often made from petroleum-based products. Companies could be using alternatives such as beet juice and spices like paprika, but I’m sure it comes down to which is cheaper.

8. Artificial Flavor – the actual definition of artificial flavor is a substance that enhances flavor not derived from a spice, fruit, vegetable, or protein. There are obvious natural alternatives to this, but the synthetic artificial flavors have a more intense taste meaning they need less.

Time to Hit the Preservatives

7. D.A.T.E.M – I cover this additive in detail over here, but for the sake of this article DATEM is basically a substance added to increase shelf life and to improve texture. DATEM is present in most bread products on stores shelves these days.

6. Monoglycerides – this long-winded substance is a fatty acid that also improves shelf life and quality of the product over that time. It’s akin to the very well documented and harmful triglycerides, but mono is only one fatty acid as opposed to the three in triglycerides.

There are alternatives!

5. Sodium Aluminum Silicate – you can impress your friends by naming that one off. This chemical is in coffee whitener to keep the powder dry while on the shelf. It’s created by reacting aluminum sulphate and sodium silicate together. Sounds like the perfect thing to eat.

4. Dipotassium Phosphate – breaking down what this is and how it’s made is above my business degree, but food journals say it is an emulsifier, stabilizer, and texturizer. Funny enough you will find Dipotassium Phosphate in many medications and household cleaning products as well.

3. Sodium Caseinate – a protein found in cow’s milk. It has become a central ingredient in many dairy products such as ice cream and cheese. By using Sodium Caseinate companies can break out most of the fat in milk.

2. Hydronated Oils – in the case of coffee whitener this could be coconut, palm, or soybean. All of these come from a horrible high pressure extraction process that sees the oil undergo several changes to either solidify it or soften it. All these oils are straight up trans fats.

The King of the Ingredients in Coffee Creamer

1. Glucose Syrup – this is a sugar product used in may shelved products to sweeten, soften, and add volume. It’s made from concentrating dextrose (sugar), maltose (sugar), and saccharides (sugar). This is basically sugar on speed. That’s right folks, the main ingredient in coffee whitener is highly concentrated sugar.

I would normally use this part to give a little high horse statement on using this crap, but if you read through this and realized there is not one single “real” food in a bottle of this garbage I’m sure you’ll do the right thing. Is coffee creamer keto…. Nope, it’s not even food.
