How do you eat keto in New Hampshire? That seems like an oddly specific question. Well, here’s the thing. Bill and I have recently become very interested in riding motorcycles. You might remember that we went to Summerside, Prince Edward Island for a rally in July. That got us thinking about going to bigger rallies, and Laconia, New Hampshire hosts one of the biggest!
The Laconia Motorcycle week is in New Hampshire each year. It started in 1916, with motorcycles from all over the United States arriving at one single destination. There were 7 times they did not hold the rally, due to war and the Great Depression. 2023 marks the 100th anniversary of the rally.
Because it takes place in Laconia, you can really stay and eat anywhere in New Hampshire. The headquarters for the rally is at Weirs Beach in Laconia, but it circles out to include most of the Lakes region of the state. It features music, stunt shows, vendors, racing, and (of course) food.
Restaurants for Breakfast in New Hampshire
There are a couple of good options for breakfasts in Laconia. Breakfast is a great keto meal that traditionally consists of eggs and meats, and sometimes throwing in some cheese too. The Compass Cafe is open early in the morning until 2 in the afternoon. They not only have a lot of options for omelets and meats with eggs, but they also have some salads that look interesting. They have a Cobb salad, a chicken bacon ranch salad, and a caprese over spinach. So, if you go closer to lunch time, there’s also some good options.
The second place that will be where I try out if I make it to Laconia next year is Union Diner. They have two pages of breakfast options! These options include steak and eggs and omelets. Additionally, they have the traditional plates of bacon or sausage and eggs of your choice.
Often, breakfast options come with toast and/or hash browns. Most places will substitute a couple of slices of tomatoes instead, for a keto option. Union Diner also has a variety of burgers and hot dogs which you can easily make keto if you get them without the buns. So, again, if it’s closer to lunch time, you have some good options too. Although I eat breakfast any time of day!
Keto in New Hampshire for Lunch
There are a few fast food options in Laconia for a quick lunch option. For burgers, you have Wendy’s, McDonald’s and Dairy Queen. There is a Taco Bell available as well. If you make your menu item into a salad, Taco Bell can be a good and delicious option. There is also a Subway, if you want to have a salad. Again, the diners listed above have some good lunch options as well if you’re not feeling the chain restaurant options.
Keto in New Hampshire for Dinner
Just outside of Laconia is an Applebee’s. They have lots of options that can be made into keto. You can get steaks, chicken, seafood, burgers, or salads. Their sides feature keto-friendly options such as broccoli, and green beans.
Tower Hill Tavern looks like a place that would be great for visitors to Laconia who are keto. They have a couple of salads that look great. The Cobb Hill salad (get it with no dried cranberries) looks like a full meal. The fajita avocado chicken salad (with no corn or tortilla chips) looks delicious! Then they have steaks and seafood options. One of their side options is broccoli with lemon garlic butter. Yummy! Or, you can get a normal, everyday salad as a side.
One place that I am anxious to try is the T-Bones Great American Eatery. They have a wide variety of meals you can make keto. They have burgers (get them without the buns), steaks, and seafood options. What makes me more excited is their variety of sides. You can choose from broccoli, green beans, mushrooms, and fried Brussel sprouts.
A Final Thought about Keto Options in New Hampshire
If you go further outside of Laconia, there are even more options. But these are some good ideas to get you started. Sounds like a road trip to me! Hint, hint, Bill.
