Nashville is known for its small town feel, but it has over 1 million people! It’s the capital city of Tennessee and it’s known for its country music scene. Nashville is also known for fried chicken and fluffy biscuits – not exactly keto meals. So, can you eat keto in Nashville?
Fast Food in Nashville
Nashville has all the typical fast food options you’d expect in a big city. Everything from McDonalds to Subway, to Jimmy John’s. If you want a quick and easy lunch option, check out the blog I did on our top 10 fast food joints. These are great options if you just want to grab and go.
Eating Keto in Nashville Restaurants
I found a thread on Reddit that had a couple of really good options to check out. Unfortunately, a couple of the options were permanently closed – thanks, COVID. But one that looked like a good option was Edlay’s BBQ. Tennessee is known for BBQ, but they are also known for sauces and sides that are heavy in sugars. Edlay’s has smoked meats without the sauces layered on. You can ask about the sauces – they may have something that is keto friendly. Most of the sides are carb heavy, but they do have a side of green beans that might be good.
Butcher and Bee Restaurant does their menu weekly, based on fresh, available products. The menu for the week of November 27th wasn’t that keto friendly, although their meats certainly looked good. They seem like the kind of place that would cater to your nutritional needs. And the reviews online are really good. Got to like fresh, local foods!
Eating Keto in Nashville Turnip Truck
Now the one I got really excited about was the Turnip Truck in Nashville. Funny enough, it’s not a food truck, but an actual building. Each day they have a different item for their hot bar. Mondays it’s build a bowl, so the ingredients are catered to that. Tuesdays are tacos. Wednesdays are Indian food, so you may need to ask some questions about sauces, but the spices would be good. Thursday is comfort food, and most of it is loaded with carbs. Likewise, Fridays are Italian day, so it’s full of pasta and a good day to skip.
On the weekend, they have breakfast sandwiches. Then, they also have a rotisserie chicken that does not have any sugar added, so that’s exciting. And, they have their salad bar. I love a good salad bar, and it just opens up so many possibilities! If (when) I get to Nashville, I’m definitely going here. I know there’s a joke about falling off a turnip truck in there somewhere…
Keto in Nashville For Dessert
There is a keto bakery in Nashville called Healthy Body Bakery. They offer keto cookies and keto-friendly cheesecakes. While I’m sure the calories are high, the sugar free options look really good.
There is also a bakery called Spinach Tiger. It’s not a store front. They go to farmer’s markets they also have their product in Elroy’s Coffee Shop in Franklin (about 30 minutes outside Nashville). They seem really interesting because they have bakery goods to order, but they also have keto cooking classes and they include recipes for their products on their website. Really interesting business model, and I would say, definitely worth the 30 minute trip.
Why Nashville?
Well, I’m sitting at home today with the wood fire burning and a heater in our bedroom because it’s winter in Canada. I’m dreaming of anywhere I can ride my motorcycle that will be warm and fun in the spring. Nashville is a popular tourist destination, and I figure it’s worth dreaming about!
