If you want a fancier dinner but still want to be able to figure out what you can order in advance, The Keg is a good option. They have their nutritional information on their website (www.kegsteakhouse.com). We’ve gone through and highlighted the items on their website as of today’s date that are under 10 net carbs. You can keto at the Keg.
Keto at the Keg Appetizers:
- Shrimp Cocktail has 3 grams of net carbs
- Pesce Crudo (only available at lunch time) has 5 grams of net carbs
- Iceberg Wedge Salad with buttermilk ranch dressing has 8 grams of net carbs
- Iceberg Wedge Salad with bleu cheese dressing has 8 grams of net carbs
- Tomato and Burrata has 5 grams of net carbs.
I’m not going to lie – I had to look up the Pesce Crudo. It’s a delicacy of raw fish that is popular in Italy, particularly Sicily. The tomato and burrata is a salad made of tomatoes (of course) and a creamy cheese called burrata. When we went, we had the iceberg wedge salad and didn’t eat the entire wedge of lettuce.
If you want a burger, you can get it with no bun. Let’s be honest – why would you go to a more expensive place like The Keg Steakhouse and get a burger? If you do, ask about any sauces. In the United States, you can also get blackened Prime Rib Bites and they have 8 grams of net carbs. They are not available in Canada.
Keto at The Keg with Steak
Now, for the real reason people go to a steakhouse: steak!
- Top Sirloin (6 oz.) has 3 grams of net carbs
- The Top Sirloin (8 oz.) has 3 grams of net carbs
- Top Sirloin (12 oz.) has 3 grams of net carbs
- Teriyaki Sirloin (8 oz.) has 4 grams of net carbs
- Teriyaki Sirloin (12 oz.) has 4 grams of net carbs
- Filet Mignon (7 oz.) has 7 grams of net carbs
- Baseball Top Sirloin (12 oz.) has 3 grams of net carbs
- New York Steak has 3 grams of net carbs.
Now, if you are on keto and you can still eat a 12-ounce steak, good for you! When we went to The Keg last time, I had an 8-ounce steak and I took a lot of it home. I usually eat 3 ounces of meat at a meal, so even when we splurge on calories, the 6-ounce is probably good.
Keto Seafood Options
Seafood is another option at The Keg. If you want to get really fancy, you can combine the seafood with a steak and have a big old surf and turf meal.
- Atlantic Lobster Tail has 2 grams of net carbs
- King Crab has 2 grams of net carbs
- Shrimp and Scallop Oscar has 3 grams of net carbs
- Grilled Jumbo shrimp has 1 gram of net carbs
- Oven Baked Salmon has 4 grams of net carbs.
Obviously, having a baked potato is not an option if you want to stick to keto. The last time we went, we asked for cauliflower as a side and they were able to accommodate us. It was actually a lot of cauliflower; like half the plate was cauliflower. Like I said, we took a lot of our dinner home with us.
Sides to Stay Keto at The Keg
Here are some of the other sides you have as an option.
- Sauteed Mushrooms have 8 grams of net carbs (we split an order)
- Mixed vegetables have 9 grams of net carbs
You can have the Side Caesar, just ask about the dressing. It says on the website it has 12 grams net carbs but that is with the croutons included.
The sauces are the stars of the show.
- Whisky Peppercorn has 5 grams of net carbs
- Bearnaise Sauce has 3 grams of net carbs
- Demi-Glace has 4 grams of net carbs
- Garlic Chive Butter has 0 grams of net carbs.
We went with the Garlic Chive Butter because, beyond the fact that it doesn’t have carbs, you can’t go wrong with butter!
There are, unfortunately, no keto-friendly desserts here. The plus side is that you will be so full, you won’t need any dessert! Or, if you need that little sweet after such a big meal, just go home and have one of the desserts listed in our cookbook that you can purchase here. They taste better anyway!
The Keg offers a lot of options. Pick what you want wisely because it can add up to a lot of carbs if you have a little of everything. But it gives you an option for an evening out with a significant other, friends or family where you can order with confidence.
