We found these little gems at Costco the last time we were in. Every time we go to Costco, we look for something new that claims to be keto-friendly. If the nutritional information looks good, we buy them and try them out so we can give you our opinion. This time it was High Key Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies.  So… are highkey cookies truly keto-friendly?
Some History on Highkey Cookies
John Gibb is the co-founder of the company. He moved to this product after being CEO of Moon Cheese, another keto-friendly product. He and James Beard asked the question, âWhat do you crave the most on a low-carb diet?â The answer? Chocolate chip cookies! So the two created a recipe using high quality, simple ingredients that would provide an option for those living the keto lifestyle.
The ingredients in the product are, for the most part, things you could find in any health food store. They only use natural colourings and flavours. Their mission is to remove sugar from their products while providing a taste that keeps you wanting more. In fact, their motto is, âHigh in Awesome. Not Sugar.â Instead, they use a blend of monk fruit, stevia extract and erythritol.
Serving Sizes of Highkey Cookies
So are they truly keto friendly? Their serving size is 8 of the mini cookies. This seems like a lot, but they are small. Still, itâs a good amount and makes you feel like you actually had a nice snack. The 8 cookies have 160 calories, 14 grams of fat, 1 gram of net carbs, and 5 grams of protein. Itâs easy to fit into your meal plan!
I really enjoyed the cookies. They taste like a regular shortbread chocolate chip cookie. I used to love Chips Ahoy cookies, and they are different from that, but they donât have that fake or sugar alcohol taste to them that many do. If you go in expecting the texture of a shortbread cookie, they are really good. You can tell they use high quality, real ingredients.
On their website, you can filter their products by diet. Keto is one of the options. It then shows you the products that are keto-friendly that they sell. I had no idea they had so many products! The types of cookies alone are incredible. They have mini cookies in the flavours of: snickerdoodle, double chocolate brownie, lemon, chocolate mint, vanilla shortbread, salted caramel, peanut butter and chocolate peanut butter. You can also purchase bundles that combine several flavours so you get a variety.
Many Other Products to Sample
Some of their other products also look interesting. They have caramel clusters, caramel filled bars, soft baked mini treats (they look like mini muffins), soft baked biscuits, mini protein crispies and chocolate pearls. They all have less than 2 net carbs in a serving. Â
There are two downsides to this product. One is the price. Because they use quality ingredients, the products are more expensive. You pay for the quality. That means that we wouldnât buy them all the time, but they are good for a treat once in a while. They are very upfront about this, and you will see in their information on their website that they acknowledge that they chose to use the expensive ingredients to get the good quality texture and taste.
The second down side for us is the availability. In little old Nova Scotia, Canada, itâs hard to find them. As I said, we found them at Costco for the first time recently. You can order from their website, but then of course there are shipping costs. You can also find them on Amazon. If you read the reviews, they are pretty similar; the taste is great, the price can be daunting.
Check Out The Highkey Group
I went on Facebook to follow their page, and found that they have a group. The group is private and I havenât been accepted yet, but they ask you some questions when you ask to be let in. Included in the questions is the one that founded the entire company. What do you crave? Itâs obvious that they actually look for this feedback and use it in the development of their products. They listen to their audience and it shows in what they put out!
