Today is #NationalTellAJokeDay. The more keto becomes mainstream and popular, the more jokes pop up about the lifestyle. Keto is not easy, so to be good at it, you have to do a lot of research. And, if you’re like us, once you know a lot about something, you want to share that knowledge…with everyone. We often get carried away when someone asks us a simple question like, “How is it going with your keto plan?” We end up telling them all about the science and what we’ve eaten for the last month, and why it would be beneficial to them. So, take today and don’t be afraid to make fun of yourself a little bit and laugh at keto.
Jokes to Tell to Laugh at Keto
There are lots of them online, especially on Pinterest. You have memes galore to choose from. Here are a couple that made me giggle from Buzzfeed.
Susan: I brought donuts for everyone.
Me (on keto): I hope you choke on a sprinkle, Susan.
Me: opens door
Jehovah’s Witness: Can I talk to you about the lord?
Me: Can I talk to you about my new keto diet?
Jehovah’s Witness: Can we just pretend like I never knocked?
Me: sure
A guy in my office is shaking his protein shake and this woman poked her head around the corner and said “do I hear margaritasssss?”… no Janet, it’s 10 am.
Why we Take Keto Seriously
I mean, we started keto and ended up doing a whole website and blog about it! We get passionate about it because we have to learn a lot about how our bodies work. It takes time and research. The downside to that is that when someone asks the innocent question of, “You look great. How did you do it,” we don’t stop our answer with just keto. Instead, we talk about how it works and what you eat and macros and ketones. Science is serious. It can be easy to start taking ourselves too seriously.
Take Some Time to Laugh at Keto
Because keto is a different way to live, there are lots of ways to laugh about it. Think about all the ways we use cauliflower. Remember of all the conversations we’ve had where the other person’s eyes glaze over. Think about the critical response we’ve had towards the lifestyle from health professionals. It’s funny – if you don’t take it too seriously.
Today is about looking at our passion for keto and realizing that others don’t find it as thrilling as we do. We try to throw the information out there for people who are searching for answers. But, we do fall into the category of going on and on about it too. It’s about recognizing when people are being polite when asking us questions, and then recognizing when people actually want to talk about how to do keto.
A Final Thought About Finding Humour in Keto
I recently wrote a blog about why you have to go all-in on keto. It is truly an all or nothing proposition. You can’t do “kind of” keto. That adds to the fact that once you are all-in, it’s what you want to talk about. It’s your new normal and because you are excited for the results you see and feel, you want to share that new normal with friends and acquaintances. Maybe just hold off sharing with strangers in the grocery store?
