A while ago, Bill went to Boston Pizza with friends for lunch. He knew that there was no pizza he could eat, but we’re pretty confident now that most places have something we can adapt to fit within our keto plan. Boston Pizza is a very popular chain restaurant. There has to be something he can eat there! But after he asked some questions to the server (and was ridiculed for doing so – but that’s another blog), he realized that it is very difficult to eat keto at Boston Pizza.

Appetizers at Boston Pizza

When I looked at the nutritional information for Boston Pizza, I was surprised that the only appetizer that fell within the range of what I would consider keto-friendly was the starter sized wings. They have 6 net grams of carbs. Unfortunately, 4 grams of this is sugar. Now, if you are just doing keto to try to lose weight or get some health benefits, this may be okay for you. Bill’s health condition means that if he takes in sugar, his body starts producing insulin and doesn’t know when to stop. Sugar is a no-go for him. So, this appetizer is a no-go for him.

Main Options that are Keto at Boston Pizza

Boston Pizza does not give information separately for the main dishes. They include the meat and the sides all together. This makes it difficult to know what you can and cannot eat as a meal. The New York striploin has 44 grams of net carbs. Now, this would be with the sides, which are listed on the menu online as seasonal vegetables. The meal is also listed as having 14 grams of sugar. A side of vegetables is listed in their information as having 6 grams of carbs. Now, it doesn’t say it comes with a potato option, but I’m assuming it must. How else could a steak have 38 grams of carbs???

Might be easier to just make your own pizza.

Bowls and Salads that are Keto at Boston Pizza

If you’ve read our blogs, you know that Caesar salads tend to be our go-to. If all else fails, we order that with no croutons and usually we are safe with that. However, when you look at the Caesar dressing listed in the sides, it has 6 grams of carbs in it! Even the chicken Caesar salad has sugar in it.

Sandwiches

You can get a sandwich or hamburger at Boston Pizza without the bread. But, there still appears to be sugar added to the steak sandwich. I’m assuming that’s BBQ sauce included with it. The burger has 9 grams of sugar. The grilled chicken clubhouse sandwich has 97 grams of net carbs, including the bread. I’m not even sure how that’s possible.

Final Thoughts of Eating Keto at Boston Pizza

I didn’t go into the pizzas at Boston Pizza, because we know that the crust is not keto-friendly. They have a cauliflower crust, which is gluten free, but that does not mean it’s keto. The cauliflower crust has a ton of carbs in it.

What Bill found when he asked some questions was that Boston Pizza adds sugar to most everything. For the reasons I talked about above, and the fact that I was addicted to sugar, we avoid it like the plague. So, for us, there are really no options at Boston Pizza. If you are not as strict as we are with sugar, you could make something work and stay within your carb allowance for the day, if you are careful.

We’ll take a pass on Boston Pizza.
