If there is one thing we love as much as keto, it’s Disney World. We first went there when our daughter was 7 years old. She was old enough to handle the lineups, but young enough to believe in the magic. It was perfect. Except for the food. We didn’t know how food options worked our first time around. We’ve been back a few times since then and figured it out. Now that we’re keto, it puts a different spin on it, so we thought we would share our knowledge with you. So, here is the first in a five part series – eating keto at Magic Kingdom for quick serve options.
Quick serve is like a fast food restaurant at Disney. You go up to a counter and order. Your food is handed to you, and you go sit where you can find room. Disney is known for their superior service, even with quick serve and snack kiosks. They are used to people asking about nutritional information. We have gone through the menus of these restaurants to get the best starting information for you. That being said, Disney changes things all the time, so these are just beginning suggestions. Make sure you do your own research, and if you are unsure, just ask.
Keto at Magic Kingdom for Breakfast
If you are just looking for a quick serve breakfast in the Magic Kingdom, you have a couple of options. Friar’s Nook has an egg and bacon sandwich. You can get it without bread or the tater tots. Bonus – it can be served in a souvenir Mickey hat bowl.
Lunching Pad also has a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. Again, get it without the bread and you are good to go. I don’t think they have the Mickey hat bowl though. That could be a game changer.
My go-to would likely be Main Street Bakery – aka Starbucks. They have your regular coffee or tea order here. I love the Americano with two heavy cream. They have some breakfast sandwiches here as well. Just don’t eat the bread. I like the sounds of a bacon, gouda, and egg sandwich. They are likely premade, so just buy them as they are and ditch the bread or croissant.
Snacks that are Keto at Magic Kingdom
Pass by those turkey legs, folks. Rumour has it that they are braised in brown sugar. Liberty Square Market is your destination for keto snacks. They have Babybel cheese and pickles. They also have a trail mix as an option. Check the label to see how many net carbs are in it.
It can be hard to walk past all those yummy Disney snacks, like the ice cream treats, popcorn, and cupcakes. Truth be told, there aren’t a lot of keto snack options. But, you can bring your own food into the park, so you may want a small cooler to keep in a locker. If you get hungry. I’ve found that the portions at Disney are so big that we struggle to eat snacks on top of our meals.
Lunch and Dinner Options
Our favourite place to start our Disney trips is Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe. Why? It’s just our tradition. But, for keto, this is as good a spot as any. It has a toppings bar that has tons of options that are keto-friendly. You get your meal and then put as many toppings on as you want. The meals that are keto-friendly include the foot long hotdog (no bun), and the bacon cheeseburger (no bun). They also have a Greek salad with chicken that looks pretty good.
The place that is famous among keto folks in the Magic Kingdom is Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe. We tend to go on the off season, so it usually isn’t open when we get there. If it is, you are golden! You get a platter or bowl with no rice, corn, beans or tortillas. Go to the toppings bar and fill up with tons of keto-friendly options. You can order a side of guacamole. If you’re not feeling the Mexican vibe, you can get a cheeseburger with no bun as well.
Hot Dogs At Magic Kingdom
Friar’s Nook has hot dogs and bratwursts at lunch and dinner times. Get these with no bread or tater tots. They also have a side of cheese sauce available. Oh, and of course they have the Mickey hat bowl!
Lunching Pad follows suit again with hot dogs being available. Just get it with no bun. They also have the side of cheese sauce available. But no Mickey hat bowl.
Casey’s Corner is known for their all-beef hot dogs. If you aren’t going for the Mickey souvenir, this might be where you want to go for a hot dog. They have a regular hot dog, and a foot long hot dog. They also have the side of cheese sauce. Get any of the above without the bun.
A Final Thought on Eating Keto at Magic Kingdom
As with any restaurant, be sure to ask lots of questions. Don’t eat any bread products (i.e. bread, buns, wraps, or croissants) with the sandwiches, hot dogs, or hamburgers. For condiments, mayonnaise is usually okay, as is Caesar dressing or Ranch dressing. We suggest staying away from ketchup or relish. If you’re going with pickles, just make sure they are dill as other ones tend to be loaded with sugar.
Enjoy your time at Magic Kingdom, and know that you will eat well during your trip. You can do keto at Disney!
