COVID restrictions have eased, and Bill and I immediately decided to plan a trip for this winter to Disney World. You can tell we are excited – we did a blog on quick service options at Hollywood Studios for keto. A big part of our trips revolves around food, and Disney is no different! I’m loving the research aspect of planning this trip. One restaurant at Disney World actually has two locations, so they got a look from me. This blog is looking at eating keto at Rainforest Cafe.
Appetizers that are Keto at the Rainforest Cafe
There are a couple of options for keto-friendly appetizers at the Rainforest Cafe. One is the Little Islander Caesar salad – with no croutons, of course. The other option is the Paradise House Salad – with no carrots or croutons. For small, appetizer-sized options, these two are about it for keto.
Main Dishes at Rainforest Cafe
If you want to keep on the theme of salads, you can get a full sized Caesar salad and add chicken or shrimp (again, no croutons). They also have a Volcanic Cobb Salad that sounds good. I would get it with no carrots, just to keep the amount of carbs down.
The Rainforest has a couple of burgers that could be keto-friendly if you get them without a bun and fries. The Rainforest Burger is your typical burger with lettuce, tomato, onion and cheese. You can get bacon and guacamole added for an extra charge, which I would. I’d probably see if they had mayo available, and if not, the guacamole would give you some extra flavour and the feeling of having a condiment with it.
The other option is the Iggy Piggy. This is slow-cooked Cuban style pork with sliced ham, swiss cheese, pickles, and creole mustard. Check to make sure the pickles are dill, and this sounds like a good keto meal for many people. I’m not a fan of mustard, so it wouldn’t be my choice, but it’s a solid keto option.
Then, they have steak. If you get them without the potato, it’s usually a safe bet. They have top sirloin or what they call “Primal” steak. The primal steak is a New York strip steak that sounds good. For $42 per serving, it better be good!
Sides that are Keto at Rainforest Cafe
You can add grilled shrimp to your meal. They also have seasonal vegetables as a side option. That’s it. The rest are carb-filled grains. You can hope that when you go, broccoli, cauliflower and/or green beans are considered seasonal. Wait, Florida has warm weather all year-round. What isn’t seasonal? I’m confused.
Eating Keto at Rainforest Cafe in Disney
I wasn’t impressed with the options at Rainforest Cafe for keto people. They have the few typical meal options that can be accommodated to be keto, just the same as most places have. Caesar salads with no croutons, steak with vegetables, and burgers with no sauces or buns. I’m not sure how many substitutions and special items they might do, considering these two restaurants are on Disney property.
Disney is known for being flexible with menus to accommodate special diets. I’m not sure, where these are part of a chain, if Rainforest Cafe is quite so flexible. Overall, I think I probably won’t find out. If it was my only option, I’d certainly find some options there. However, Disney is full of restaurants, so I think I’ll just pick somewhere else.
