Eating keto in Digby, Nova Scotia seems very specific. Digby is a small town in Nova Scotia that normally has about 2,000 residents. It’s right on the Bay of Fundy, which boasts the highest tides in the world. But the reason why we are researching eating keto in Digby is their annual Wharf Rat Rally. In 2019, there were over 10,000 motorcycles in this small town over the Saturday and Sunday. COVID-19 has put a hold on the rally ever since, but this year it is back, and promises to be bigger than ever!

Breakfasts that are Keto in Digby

Bill and I plan to attend Wharf Rat Rally this year, so we need to do a little research on what is available to eat in the area that is keto-friendly. I am from that area, so I have a slight advantage, but I haven’t been there since we started eating a keto lifestyle.

One chain restaurant that I know has a good, solid keto option for breakfast is the Irving Big Stop. They serve breakfasts all day long, and offer bacon, sausage, eggs, and some omelets. These restaurants were originally designed for truck drivers, so the servings are large and the food is hot. They also have good coffee. That’s important in the morning.

Another breakfast place in Digby is Josie’s Place. It’s a cafe that offers breakfast options. They also have omelets, bacon, sausages, and eggs. Their options come with toast and/or hash browns, but most places will substitute a couple of slices of tomato in their place. The coffee is yet to be determined.

Keto Options for Lunches

There are a few fast food places in Digby. Besides KFC, which has nothing keto, they have McDonalds and Dairy Queen. My preference is McDonalds – not because their food is any better or worse, but because I always crave ice cream if I’m at a Dairy Queen. There is also a Subway in Digby, where you can get a good salad. And, there are two Tim Horton’s in Digby. I don’t particularly care for their food, but I do enjoy their coffee!

Eating Dinner that is Keto in Digby

Being on the water, fishing is a big industry in this area. The scallops are world famous. When I googled keto in Digby, The Wheelhouse Seafood and Pasta restaurant popped up. It is about 20 minutes outside of the town of Digby. They have an appetizer of bacon wrapped scallops. They have several salad options, including a garden salad, a Caesar salad (get it with no croutons), a Greek salad, and a taco salad.

There are going to be a lot of bikes.

But the star of this show is the seafood main dishes. You can get a small salad as your side for a couple of dollars extra. They have the Digby scallop dinner, with seared scallops. They also have a creamed lobster (made with butter and cream) over haddock as a dinner option. That may be a winner!

My second choice is the Crow’s Nest. They have two locations, and their food is fresh and delicious. If you like seafood, this will not disappoint. For starters, they have Kosher dill pickles, pickled eggs, and pan fried scallops (cooked with garlic butter). Their main dishes that are keto-friendly include a gluten free haddock (not breaded), scallops that are pan fried, bacon wrapped scallops that are pan fried, or grilled shrimp with garlic butter. You can get a Caesar salad (with no croutons) or a garden salad as a side.

Other Keto Options at Wharf Rat Rally

There are a couple of vendors who have registered for Wharf Rat that sound interesting too. We will be downtown Digby and getting out of the area is not going to be easy, so if they have options right there, it will be great.

One option is the Dash Cafe Food Truck. They say that they offer breakfast options and coffee. If so, I may just set up beside them all weekend. They also offer sausages and burgers. It’s usually easy to make these keto by just holding the bun. The other option is Manzer’s Sausages. They don’t have a menu posted, so I’ll have to see what they are. Again, you can usually eat these and stay keto by just holding the bun.

Final Thoughts on Eating Keto in Digby

We will take pictures and update on this when we get back. We’re looking forward to a weekend of motorcycles, fun, and lots of keto food!
