Opa is a Greek word that is used when happy.Ā It is often used to express joy and celebration around eating with loved ones.Ā Opa is a quick service Greek restaurant that offers fresh, Mediterranean cuisine.Ā It has been around for 20 years, probably because they use real, quality ingredients in their food. But can you eat keto at Opa!
Finding the Information to Eat Keto at Opa!
First, let me say that I was excited when I went to their website, because it had a button for nutritional information.Ā I was less excited when I pressed that button, it took me to their menu and that was it.Ā I tried clicking on the menu item I wanted to see, and nothing happened.Ā Getting frustrated!
I tried double clicking on the menu item, and nothing.Ā I tried double clicking on the nutritional calculator button, and nothing.Ā It was incredibly frustrating.Ā I was also very unhappy when their ad for their app kept popping up and I had to stop and exit out of that.Ā Once is fine, by the 20th time I was getting frustrated.Ā So, good luck if you are trying to find out information on their website.Ā Ā
I managed to find the information I was looking for by going to other websites that linked to Opaās nutrition and ingredients.Ā So, here is what I found out.
Protein Options at Opa!
Protein options:
- Chicken souvlaki has 1 carb;
- Lamb souvlaki has 1 carb;
- Pork souvlaki has 1 carb;
- Shrimp souvlaki has 0 carbs;
- The calamari has a lot of carbs as it is breaded with flour and cornstarch.
For add ons, the feta cheese is a great option at 0 carbs. The Tzatziki sauce has 2 carbs in a 2 ounce serving.
Avoid the Pita to Eat Keto at Opa!
I did find that a side pita has 49 carbs.Ā I took that away from the total carbs listed in their pita offerings to estimate the carbs in their meals if you didnāt have the pita.Ā The chicken, lamb, and pork pitas with no pita bread would be 6 grams of carbs.Ā The veggie pita with no bread would be 5 grams of carbs.Ā Again, this wasnāt specifically listed, it was me doing some math so be sure to ask questions if you go!
They have two ālow carbā salad options.Ā Their low carb Caesar salad is listed as having 10 grams of net carbs.Ā That does include croutons, so if you took them out, it would lower the number of carbs significantly.Ā The other is a low carb Greek salad at 10 grams of net carbs.Ā It includes tomato, cucumber, green pepper, red onion, olives and feta Greek dressing.Ā I would probably ask for no red onion, and again, it would take down the carbs.Ā
I think itās a little misleading to call the salads ālow carbā as they are just the same as what other places offer as āregularā salads.Ā Ā
Overall Keto Options at Opa!
Overall, I was not really impressed with the offerings. You could certainly do a keto-friendly meal here, but they donāt make it easy! That being said, we donāt have an Opa in this area, so I havenāt eaten there in many years. The closest one to me is in Toronto, a quick 26 hour drive away. I donāt think Iāll be making my way there any time soon. Maybe the food is worth the hassle of doing the research? Let me know what you think!
