Yes, you can eat keto at pita pit!  We have one just down from our house and I hadn’t gone since starting keto because I wasn’t sure what they could offer me.  After researching their nutritional guide, I’m going to try them out!  Now, obviously, I’m not going to get the stuff in a pita because pitas are not keto-friendly.  It’s important to note as well that they have a gluten free pita option, which is great, but still not keto.  In fact, the gluten free pita has more carbs than their regular whole wheat and white pitas.  So, don’t get a pita.

The nutritional guide is wonderful for Pita Pit!  It breaks out the various ingredients, instead of just listing them all together with the pitas.  It makes it super easy to go through and decide what I’d like to have and what will keep me on the keto path.  So, great job on that!  I’ve gone ahead and assumed that you will be getting a large of everything, so that’s what the carbs are listed as.  If you get a small, the carb count will be a bit less.

Options for Keto at Pita Pit

Eat Keto at Pita Pit
Goomba wants to know if they deliver?

For the fillings, you could get bacon, chicken or steak for 2 carbs or less.  Some other options you could get would be:

  • Caesar with Chicken (1 gram carbs)
  • Chicken Shawarma (3 grams carbs)
  • Chicken Souvlaki (2 grams carbs)
  • Deli Club (3 grams carbs)
  • Deli Ham (2 grams carbs)
  • Turkey (3 grams carbs)
  • Halloumi (1 gram carbs)

I had to look up what halloumi is.  It’s similar to tofu in that it is often used as a meat substitute.  It is a cheese that can be easily fried or grilled.

Keto Friendly Toppings

Now it’s time for the toppings.  You can enjoy:

  • Alfalfa sprouts (less than 1 gram carbs)
  • Avocado (1 net gram of carbs and lots of fat – avocado is a keto lover’s dream!)
  • Black or green olives (1 gram of carbs)
  • Cucumber (1 gram of carbs)
  • Green peppers (1 gram of carbs)
  • Hot peppers (0 grams of carbs)
  • Baby spinach (less than 1 gram of carbs)
  • Jalapenos (1 gram of carbs)
  • Lettuce (1 gram of carbs)
  • Mushrooms (1 gram of carbs)
  • Pickles (1 gram of carbs)
  • Tomato (1 gram of carbs)

There are a couple of toppings I would use with caution.  The amount of hummus they use as a topping only has 2 net grams of carbs, but the carbs are sugar.  You could get onions as a topping for 2 net grams of carbs.  They also list pineapple as a topping on a large pita with 3 net grams of carbs, but remember that these sugars can begin to spike your blood sugars – especially if you haven’t had them for a long while.  It’s not likely to push you out of ketosis, but if you do keto for health reasons, these may be problematic.

Eat Keto at Pita Pit with these Sauces

Now the sauces that go over the top of your creation.  For a large, these are the carb counts.

  • Balsamic (2 grams of carbs)
  • Caesar (1 gram of carbs)
  • Garlic Aioli (1 gram of carbs)
  • Hot sauce (1 net gram of carbs)
  • Lemon Za’atar (0 grams of carbs)
  • Light mayo (1 gram of carbs)
  • Mustard (0 grams of carbs)
  • Ranch (1 gram of carbs)
  • Greek (0 grams of carbs)
  • Spicy mayo (1 gram of carbs)
  • Tzatziki (2 grams of carbs)

The BBQ sauce is full of sugar, so I would avoid that.  Also, the Ancho Chipotle has 4 grams of carbs, so that would be off the table for me, personally.

or these Cheeses

What would a pita be without cheese?  Here are the carbs for their cheese options:

  • Cheddar (1 gram of carbs)
  • Feta (2 grams of carbs)
  • Swiss (2 grams of carbs)

Their parmesan cheese must have a lot of fillers in it.  It has 5 grams of carbs!

Finally, they list their seasonings.  You can feel free to enjoy these.  Their Caribbean jerk and tex mex seasonings do not have any grams of carbs in them.  The chipotle mango, garlic plus, Greek, and steak spice each have 1 gram of carbs.

I believe you can ask for your pita on a bed of lettuce instead of the wrap.  That’s what I’m going to do when I go in.  I think I will get a chicken shawarma with avocado, Greek dressing and cheddar cheese on a bed of lettuce.  Without counting extra for the lettuce, that’s a whopping 5 grams of carbs for lunch.  Not bad at all!  I’ll let you know how it all comes out!
