When Bill and I went to Halifax last time, we discovered Pur & Simple. It is a restaurant that offers breakfast and lunch options. They pride themselves on using quality ingredients that are locally sourced when possible. It’s a bit more expensive that some breakfast places, but you can taste the quality. We went there on our first morning in the city, and found ourselves back the following morning! Because Pur & Simple keto is a thing.

Pur & Simple Keto Breakfast

Breakfast is usually a pretty safe bet for keto people. Bacon and eggs – what more could you want? You can get an omelet without the carb-laden sides, like hash brown potatoes or toast. Most of these options look pretty good. Here is what sold us though; they have a keto breakfast! Thank you very much!

Okay, so the keto breakfast comes with 2 eggs, bacon, lettuce, an entire avocado sliced in half, goat cheese crumbles, red and green peppers and red onions. It’s also served with a small dish of seasonal berries and another small dish of roasted almonds. If you ate the entire plate, it would up your carbs a lot with 20 net carbs. That’s my day, folks.

However, we found the onions very strong, as we aren’t used to eating them anymore. There is also a lot of lettuce and peppers on the plate. So, be selective in what you chose to eat and you will be fine. Also, I don’t like goat cheese so I got cheddar cheese instead. Well, what a mistake! Apparently, goat cheese and avocado complement each other very well! Bill got the goat cheese and I tried it with some of the avocado and it was delicious!

Other Breakfast Options at Pur & Simple

What else can you get for breakfast and keep to your keto goals? Here is a low down on the carbs for certain menu items:

Bacon – 1 carb
Crumbled goat cheese – 0 carbs
Cheddar cheese – 1 carb
Egg – 1 carb (actually, a partial carb, but we always say there is no such thing as a half carb!)
Greek yogurt – 6 carbs
½ Avocado – 2 net carbs
Salsa – 4 net carbs
3 Sausages – 6 carbs
Side of Italian sausage – 1 carb
Side of Peameal bacon – 1 carb
A Side of Sour cream – 6 carbs
Side Turkey bacon – 1 carb

Pur & Simple Keto

My second breakfast at Pur & Simple was just 2 eggs and bacon. I asked for the small dish of seasonal berries and roasted almonds that comes with the keto meal instead of the potatoes and toast. I was told that they wouldn’t substitute but I could pay extra. What the heck, we were on vacation, so I added the seasonal berries dish. It was an extra $2 on my bill. You can decide for yourself if it is worth it.

I mean, it’s about 1 strawberry sliced, 4-5 blueberries and a couple of raspberries. It’s great for keto, and it’s probably worth $2 but it kind of turned me off that they wouldn’t just toss it in when there was so much other stuff I wasn’t getting.

Pur & Simple Keto Lunches

Pur & Simple keto also does lunches. Their grilled chicken breast doesn’t have any carbs, so you can have that as part of their menu options. They have a Deluxe burger that if you took off the bun and the ketchup looks like it would be low in carbs. They have a chicken Caesar wrap with the grilled chicken that would be good if you didn’t have the tortilla. Their club sandwich (without the bread) looks delicious! And, of course, there is the old standby of Caesar salad with no croutons available.

Overall, we were happy with Pur and Simple. They have two locations around where we were staying. I enjoyed the first location better, simply because of the issue with the berries and almonds. That being said, we had just come from Costco and I was pretty hangry at the time, so I may have blown that out of proportion. It certainly won’t stop me from going back. And we were not alone – we had to get on a wait list to get a table!

We Will Be Back

Bottom line is that we will be back to Pur and Simple the next time we are in the city. Anyone want to set one up in our small town???
