We had friends who wanted to go to East Side Marios for lunch. It serves Italian food, specializing in fresh, warm bread, pasta, and pizzas. There is not much there for a keto person. But I did a little research and found a few options I thought I’d pass on to you. As the title says… keto at East Side Marios is hard work.
The Bread Makes Keto at East Sde Marios REALLY HARD
The toughest part for me is saying no to the warm bread, of which I used to eat 2 loaves by myself! It is now off limits if I want to stay in ketosis, which I do. East Side is also known for their all-you-can-eat salads. Those I can indulge in. The garden salad has 9 net carbs but that is including the croutons. The Caesar, which I prefer, is 7 grams of net carbs, including the croutons. Just leave the bowl by me, please.
One sure bet is getting the salad as your main meal. You can top it with chicken breast or shrimp, neither of which add any carbs. It’s quick and easy, but may not be overly satisfying as your friends chow down into their pasta.
This Burger Will Make it Work If You Have To Be There
East Side Mario’s does have a burger that looks really good. The sauce it comes with is roasted garlic aioli that only adds 2 grams of net carbs. Get the burger without the bun and add bacon and you should be safe and satisfied.
If you go for lunch, you can get their grilled chicken “Sammy.” It also comes with the roasted garlic aioli. Get the sandwich with no focaccia and you are good to go.
There are some sides you could also get with the burger or the “Sammy.” Steamed broccoli is an option and it only has 2 grams of net carbs. The primavera vegetables also sound really good and they also have only 2 grams of net carbs.
Keto at East Side Marios is Just a Burger… But It Will Do
So, if I end up there, I will be getting the burger with the primavera vegetables. Also, a Caesar salad as an appetizer. I think that will hold me over and keep me happy!
