If there is one thing we love as much as keto, it’s Disney World. We first went there when our daughter was 7 years old. She was old enough to handle the lineups, but young enough to believe in the magic. It was perfect. Except for the food. We didn’t know how food options worked our first time around. We’ve been back a few times since then and figured it out. Now that we’re keto, it puts a different spin on it, so we thought we would share our knowledge with you. So, here is the second in a five part series – eating keto at Epcot for quick service options.
Quick serve is like a fastfood restaurant at Disney. You go up to a counter and order. Your food is handed to you, and you go sit where you can find room. Disney is known for their superior service, even with quick serve and snack kiosks. They are used to people asking about nutritional information. We have gone through the menus of these restaurants to get the best starting information for you. That being said, Disney changes things all the time, so these are just beginning suggestions. Make sure you do your own research, and if you are unsure, just ask.
Keto at Epcot for Breakfast
Epcot is a park where you tend to go later in the day. In fact, a vast majority of the park doesn’t even open until 11 am. They are my kind of people! That being said, they have recently opened a new Starbucks-based restaurant called Connections Cafe. They offer your usual Starbucks options. They also have some breakfast sandwiches there. If you don’t eat the bread, some of the options sound really gouda – see what I did there? Seriously though, the bacon, egg and gouda sandwich sounds delicious!
The Traveler’s Cafe also has coffee options and breakfast sandwiches. I think the sandwiches are made up ahead of time, so you would have to buy them and just not eat the bread or wrap.
Snacks at Epcot
The World Showcase is full of little snack carts with different food options, based on the culture the area represents. The Choza de Margarita has authentic guacamole that looks really good. You’d just have to order it without the chips or mango. La Cantina de Angel is another place that has guacamole.
The Land Cart has a veggie plate, so you could grab that and dip the vegetables in your guacamole. That’s if you are super organized! Just a note, the veggie tray does include carrots, which many people do not consider keto, so maybe just don’t eat those.
The Land Cart also has a fruit and cheese tray. If you don’t eat the grapes, the rest of the plate looks good. It has strawberries, cheddar cheese, and Babybel cheese snacks.
The Joy of Tea is a wonderful option if you are a tea lover. You can try the jasmine or oolong tea with no milk or sugar. It is a true teetotaler’s delight!
My final recommendation for keto snacks if you’re feeling adventurous and have some carbs to space is to try in Epcot is the Kabuki Cafe. They have edamame offered here. Edamame is premature soybeans that are usually cooked with salt and then chilled. Just be careful to measure. A cup of edamame has 7 grams of net carbs, but if you just try a few, you should be fine.
Keto at Epcot for Lunch or Dinner for the Adventurous
With all the incredible fine dining restaurants in Epcot (including steak houses), I personally would not do quick service in this park, but to each their own. There are a lot of options here for food with a cultural flair that you can’t get elsewhere.
Les Halles Boulangerie-Patissere is the bakery in the French pavilion. Now, the French are known for their pastries, which are not keto-friendly. However, they also feature cheese, and that’s right up our alley. They have cheese plates you can buy. You can also get the Quiche Lorraine and not eat the crust. The Croche Monsieur is also an option if you don’t eat the bun. Ohh, la, la!
If you are really feeling adventurous and want to talk food with a cook, you can check out the Mongolian beef at Lotus Blossom Cafe. It looks like it is keto-friendly if you don’t eat the rice or egg roll. There is also the Katsura Grill, who has curry chicken. You would just have to check the nutritional information on that, but it may be an option.
Epcot Options for the Not-So-Adventurous
For boring old hot dogs, you can go to the Refreshment Outpost and just get it without the bun or condiments. Yawn. Or, you can zest things up a bit and get a bratwurst with sauerkraut at Sommerfest.
Regal Eagle Smokehouse has a Memphis ribs with a dry rub that should be okay. Just don’t get the garlic toast with them. They also have a cheeseburger that you can customize and make keto. Don’t eat the garlic toast or ketchup with it.
Finally, if you’re feeling really health conscious at Disney World, you can eat at Sunshine Seasons. They have a power salad with chicken, oak grilled salmon, or oak grilled chicken. You would have to leave off the sides for the grilled meat. They also have a bacon cheeseburger or a plain cheeseburger, just don’t get the sides or the bun.
A Final Thought About Quick Service at Epcot
So, that’s about it for Quick Service options at Epcot. I hope it’s helpful. If you go and try some of these dishes, or find out nutritional information to help make your choices, please share with us!
