In 2019, SCENE founded National No Excuses Day. SCENE is an entertainment-related loyalty program in Canada. They did a publicity campaign to prioritize being social and doing what you want to do. No excuses, just have fun! It became an ongoing national day, so today we are saying no excuses, just do keto!

Celebrations and Keto

Today is all about being social, and we often incorporate food into our celebrations and social activities. If you decide to do keto, this can be intimidating. How do you socialize with friends and family without being labeled “picky” or “difficult.” Sure, keto is a choice, but many people make food choices. Some people choose to be vegetarian or vegan. Some people choose not to eat gluten. I choose not to eat carbs. You can help your loved ones navigate the keto world without a lot of stress.

Just Do Keto with Friends

When we get together with friends, we offer to bring something. If they are providing the meat dish, we offer to bring the vegetables or a salad. We let them know that we are totally fine if they eat a starch, like potatoes or yams. And, we will offer to bring a dessert. Usually we will stop off at a keto-friendly bakery and buy something that is delicious for everyone.

It’s also polite to bring your own heavy cream for coffee and condiments (like sugar-free ketchup or Ranch dressing). You can still enjoy a meal together, and all the fun conversations, without making a big deal about keto. Because, really, it’s not about the food – it’s about the company.

No Excuses to Not do Keto

If going keto is something you have decided to do, then take today and just do it! Being social with friends can still be done if you are keto and they are not. Right now, some of my friends and I are planning a weekend trip. There are about 12 of us going and all 12 of us have different food needs and choices! Now, keto is a bit more restrictive than some other food choices. I totally recognize that. So, I have told them to plan a menu and I will see what I can eat, what I will decide not to eat, and what I have to bring with me. We can still have fun and enjoy meals together.

Just Do Keto with Your Motivation

I’ve talked about motivation before. If you decide your motivation is to lose weight, you are likely not going to keep that motivation through all the cravings. You need to dig deeper than that! Why do you want to lose weight? What have you not done because of how big you are?

Even though I’m in maintenance mode for my weight, I still have motivation to tone up. Bill has talked about loose skin and it’s a real thing when you get smaller, especially if you are older and your skin doesn’t bounce back like it used to. I want to feel good about myself and how I look, so that’s the overall motivation. But, I broke that down into why. Well, we are planning a trip to Mexico this winter, and I have decided I want to wear a bikini in public for the first time. I have the bikini, now I just need the nerve to wear it!

National No Excuses Day encourages us to be social and do what we have been putting off. My goal for today is to start exercising to tone up after losing weight on keto. What have you been putting off? Just go do it!
