Now, I know that we preach against prepackaged keto snacks but sometimes you just need the convenience. I will say that the United States seems to have more available than here in Canada. I’m very jealous. But these are available in Canada, so they should be available everywhere. If you’re going to reach for it, here are some ideas so you don’t fall off the keto wagon. Our current Top 10 Keto Snacks.
Starting with In A Pinch Keto Snacks
10. No Sugar Keto Bar Cookies and Cream – They look like Oreos. They don’t really taste like Oreos. But, you can eat a couple of them and stay on track. Each bar has 155 calories, 12 grams of fat, 2 grams of net carbs (taking away the fiber and the sugar alcohols) and 9 grams of protein.
9. Pork Rinds – We tend to skip this one. Bill had an unfortunate incident with them one night when he had a few drinks and was feeling snacky. Enough said. We had the Baken-Ems and for 9 pieces, they have 90 calories, 6 grams of fat, 1 gram of carbs and 7 grams of protein.
8. Whisps Cheese Crisps – I’ve tried to like these. I really have. People say they are like chips. People are wrong. They are crispy like chips but have a strong salty flavour because they are just cheese. The latest ones I tried were tomato and basil. For about 23 whisps (about half the bag) they have 150 calories, 11 grams of fat, 1 gram of net carbs and 7 grams of protein.
A Keto Snacks Staple In Our House
7. Almonds – Now you’re playing my song! I have to be careful not to eat too many of these little babies. They add up in a hurry. According to Nutritionix, 20 almonds (which is about an ounce) have 154 calories, 14 grams of fat, 3 grams of net carbs (taking away the fiber) and 5 grams of protein.
6. No Sugar Company Keto Bar – I like the peanut butter one. Bill is not a big fan but I think they are okay every once in a while. One bar has 160 calories, 13 grams of fat, 3 grams of net carbs (taking away the fiber and sugar alcohols) and 9 grams of protein.
5. No Sugar Company Keto Kups Ice Cream – We found these at Costco and our lives were complete. Sure, you can make your own ice cream, but these come in little cups that remind me of elementary school. And they are good. Like almost sugary, real ice cream good. One little container has 130 claories, 10 grams of fat, 1 net gram of carbs (removing the fiber and sugar alcohols) and 4 grams of protein. You can read the whole review on our blog.
Who Doesn’t Love Cheese As A Snack
4. Babybel Cheese – I love these little nuggets of goodness. Each one has 71 calories, 6 grams of fat, 0 grams of carbs and 5 grams of protein.
3. Beef Jerky – This is one of Bill’s favourites. McSweeney’s has a no-sugar added jerky that is really good. 4 pieces of it has 80 calories, 2 grams of fat, 0 grams of carbs, and 16 grams of protein. It’s easy to go a little protein heavy with this snack!
2. Pep ‘N Cheds – Again by McSweeney’s this is now a road trip tradition. It comes in a package of one cheese stick and one pepperoni stick. They are about double the usual length of each that you get. And in each package, you take in 330 calories, 27 grams of fat, 1 gram of carbs and 18 grams of protein. This one almost made the top of the list!
Lily’s For the Keto Snacks Win
1. Lily’s Chocolate Bars – But, number one again has to be Lily’s Chocolate. They are just so good and they really quell our cravings for chocolate. The bars are huge so Bill and I usually share one. A half of the bar has 170 calories, 14 grams of fat, 1 gram of net carbs (taking away the fiber and sugar alcohols), 3 grams of protein, and a whole lot of sweet goodness!
So that’s our top 10. Use sparingly and make them the treats they are meant to be, keto peeps!
