I have said it before and I will say it again; I love shopping for clothes.  Love, love, love going to the stores to find articles of clothing that speak to me.  Mostly, I love going in with a budget and getting as many things as I can for that amount of money.  Yes, I’m the one who goes directly to the sales racks.  Sorry, salespeople. But thanks Keto.

Thanks Keto No More Plus Size

I used to go to the plus-sized clothing stores.  Laura’s, Pennington’s and Reitman’s were my go-to’s here in Canada.  When I started losing weight, I suddenly had the freedom to go into any store.  It’s an exhilarating feeling to be able to walk into stores and not worry about a salesperson looking at you and you imagine them thinking, “What is this fatty doing in here?”  One woman I know was actually told, “We don’t have anything for you in here.”  What a horrible thing to say. What would that do to your self-confidence?

Now I can go into any regular store that is not specifically for plus-sized people and actually find things to wear.  I was so excited when I became a size large.  Then, the size large started to look too baggy on me.  I tried on a medium and it fit!  I have not been a medium since I was a teenager, so I figured it must have just been the brand or the sizing of the store.

Other Stores Were the Same

I went to another store and took a size large into the dressing room with me.  Again, it looked baggy.  I went back and grabbed a medium and it fit.  Hmmm, was it a fluke?  Was I just extra skinny that day?

I had size 14 jeans that started to fall down to my hips.  Could I be a size 12 in pants?  Was that even possible?  The more pants I tried on, the more I realized I was truly a size 12.  They weren’t tight, they weren’t uncomfortable, they fit.

It is really hard to wrap my head around the fact that I am now solidly a size medium.  Even as I write this, I wonder if companies have changed their sizes in the past few months.  When I go into a dressing room, I still take a size large in with me “just in case.”  Yet in the last 4 months, the only thing that I have purchased that was a large was a button-down top.  You don’t want the dreaded button gap.

Thanks Keto My Body Image is Improving

Body image is a hard thing to change.  Sometimes I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror and I wonder who that is.  I have seen myself as a size 16-18 for so many years that it doesn’t seem possible that the woman wearing the medium in the mirror is actually me. Seeing recent picture of me, and I think, “Wow, I looked skinnier that day.”

I truly did keto for my health and the health of my family.  I did not do it to look better in clothes.  But if I’m honest with myself, it’s a nice perk.  It may take a while to get used to the “new” me, but it’s a journey I’m more than happy to take!
