People have been learning about the best way to ship products from place to place since Marco Polo wrote about traveling between Europe and China.  Today, we are celebrating #LogisticsDay and the people who get our keto food from where they are produced to where we need them!

How We Get Keto Food From Producers

Today, we have lots of modes of transportation for goods at our disposal.  We have trucks, trains, ships, and planes.  According to National Day Calendar, the shipping and delivery costs account for about 8% of the expenses of our products.  Truly, that is not a lot.  The past 3 years with COVID have hit this sector of manufacturing hard.  So, thank you, to everyone who helped us keep the food chain moving.

Strict Keto Food

Strict keto focuses on eating fresh, real food.  This includes things like fresh, green vegetables and never-frozen meats.  Sometimes, you can go to a farm and get these things where they are produced.  More often, you look for these foods at a store.  The logistics of getting the fresh foods from the farm to the store is complicated.  It’s not like you can just throw stuff into a box and toss it in the back of a truck, like you can with processed foods.  They have to be kept cool and they are more deliciate for moving.  It takes time and care.

Dirty Keto Products

There are keto foods that are more processed and these usually come from further away.  We started out as strict keto followers, but most would call us dirty keto now.  We try to stick with the fresh vegetables and local meats, but we do appreciate the occasional treat that is sweetened with stevia or erythritol.  It’s great for times when we need a pick-me-up or we are just tired and don’t want to cook.  These are items we often get at Walmart or Costco – things that are mass produced and brought to us by those handy logistics people.

A little dirty, but awfully yummy.

Making Our Keto Food

Getting the ingredients to make our keto food is also an important part of the logistics system.  We appreciate the fact that we, in rural Nova Scotia, can get almond flour, sweeteners, and sugar-free chocolate.  If we couldn’t bake our keto-friendly desserts, we would not be able to live this lifestyle long-term.  They keep us feeling like we are enjoying a full dietary life without going off plan.

Products that are Not Keto Food

Things that are not food for us keto humans are also important.  If we couldn’t get our kitty litter or cat food, our keto cats would not be happy!  When COVID first started shutting down the shipping routes, people started to panic and there was a toilet paper shortage.  We suddenly realized just how important the logistics industry was to our everyday comfort!

The Unsung Heros

The logistics people are often overlooked, but with COVID over the past three years, we have seen just how essential they are.  Without them, we would not have access to the foods we enjoy.  Keto is a lot of work and dedication.  This blog made me realize just how much easier they make our lives, getting the ingredients we want, when we want them.  So, go thank a trucker today for bringing us our almond flour!
