Just because we’re doing keto, doesn’t mean that we’re no fun. There are lots of drinks we can have to cool off this summer. Some are good for work, and some are good for an evening BBQ. Here’s our top 10 keto drinks to enjoy in the heat.

The Boring Ones

10. Okay, I’m going to lead off with the one we all know we should drink more – water. It’s good for you, keeps you from overheating, and keeps your body working smoothly. It’s also not very exciting. So, blah, blah, blah…drink more water.

9. Slightly more exciting – carbonated water. We are big fans of Bubly. I used to hate it and thought it tasted like watered down pop. But then I gave up sugar and I realized what flavour actually is. Now I love it. I drink it like, well, water. Strawberry is my favourite, followed closely by cherry and orange.

The Keto Drinks Safe for Work

When you’d rather be outside but you’re stuck inside at work, there are a few drinks that can remind you it’s summer and help get you through the day.

8. Diet Coke or Pepsi. Okay, don’t shoot the messenger, but I find they both taste pretty much the same. There is an aftertaste to them, but it’s a good option to order at restaurants. They will usually have one or the other.

7. Diet root beer is a good option if you can get it. It’s not widely available but it has the same root beer taste without such an aftertaste. Bill really enjoys diet A&W root beer.

6. Diet Dr. Pepper is one of our favourites. We buy cans of it and have it as a treat with dinner. We find it has very little aftertaste and it has that awesome Dr. Pepper punch. All these diet sodas contain aspartame, which is not great for you. But, it’s better than having all kinds of sugar, so we have them every once in a while as a treat. It’s all about moderation!

Coffee?

5. I can’t go a day without coffee, but when it’s really hot, you don’t want a hot drink. A good option – iced coffee. You have to be careful with this, as lots of coffee shops put syrups in them to make them sweet, and they are full of sugar. I like the cold brew from Tim Hortons with 2 cream. I usually emphasize no syrup to be sure I get what I want. There’s nothing worse than looking forward to a coffee and then you can’t drink it.

Keto Drinks Good for a Party

Summers are about getting together with family and friends. Is there anything better than having a drink around a campfire? Here are some keto-friendly options.

4. Hard liquors are, for the most part, carb-free. Use some of the above options as mixers and you’ve got yourself a tasty drink. I enjoy the Bubly with a raspberry vodka.

3. Hard seltzers offer an easy option in a can so you don’t have to lug the liquor and the mixes. You also avoid the aftertaste that is in some of the mix options. I found the aspartame upset my stomach after a couple of drinks. White Claw is one of the most popular, but sometimes you can get locally made hard seltzers which are fun to try.

2. Light beer is a great option if you are going low carb. Just be sure to do your research ahead of time, because sometimes the “light” refers only to calories, not carbs. Coors Light is okay with 5 carbs per 12 ounces, but I don’t like the taste of it. I prefer Bud Light, which has fewer carbs and I think it tastes better.

Favourite Keto drinks for Summer

1.My favourite option for keto drinks during the summer is Michelob Ultra. It has less than 3 grams of carbs per serving, and it tastes delicious. One (or two) of these on a hot summer afternoon is just what you need to feel like you’re on vacation.
