Sure, as keto people we’d love to say that we are perfect with our eating. We cook all the time and we only go out to eat on special occasions. That’s not reality. The reality is that life is busy and sometimes, you need that quick option for dinner. That doesn’t mean you have to go off-plan for the night, though. Here are our Top 10 keto fast food options for when life happens.
The Healthier Choices
There are a couple of options that keep you on the healthier side of things.
#10 – Pita Pit. I don’t know why, but I’m just not a huge fan of Pita Pit. I find their vegetable options just not quite as fresh as I like. Maybe that’s just the one closest to us. You can use lettuce as a bed for your toppings instead of a wrap. You can definitely keep to keto with this option.
#9 – BarBURRITO. This place seems to be popping up everywhere, and it’s one of our top choices when we don’t have the energy to cook. They have a great nutritional calculator where you add what you want and it shows you the information for that specific choice. We get the burrito bowl with lettuce as a base. It’s delicious!
Keto Fast Food Pizza
#8 – Pizza Pizza is our go-to pizza place for keto options. They have a keto crust and you can build your own pizza with keto-friendly toppings. Just a tip – I find that the crust cooks better if you have a couple of toppings on it. I like cheese pizza, but without the toppings, the crust tends to get a bit dark for my liking.
Keto Fast Food Chicken Options
#7 – Buffalo Wild Wings looks like an amazing option. We did a blog about it due to its popularity with keto people, even though we don’t have any of the franchise close by. Their regular, bone-in wings have no carbs. You can have a medium order with mild, medium, or hot sauce and celery sticks as a side and stay well under your carb limits for a meal. If they are as good an option as people say, it’s probably a good thing they aren’t close by – we’d be regulars!
#6 – Swiss Chalet. I list this franchise under fast food because you can call or mobile order a meal and take it home. I get their quarter chicken dinner with Caesar salad (no croutons). Their chicken sauce has some carbs in it, but not a terrible amount. I just keep it on the side and dip my fork in it before getting some chicken on the fork.
The Burgers
#5 – A&W. I like their burgers a lot. We get a Teen Burger with a lettuce wrap. According to Carb Manager, this has only 3 grams of net carbs in it – even with the teen sauce. For a treat, you can also get their diet A&W root beer, as it has no sugar and no carbs. Hmmm, I suddenly don’t feel like cooking tonight.
#4 – Wendy’s. It’s not just because I like the name. Wendy’s burgers taste better, in my opinion. We get the Baconator with a lettuce wrap and no ketchup. It comes with mayo, so you’re all set. Truly, the ketchup only adds 2 grams of net carbs, so if you’re feeling wild and crazy, go for it. They give it to you in a container with a knife and fork, so you can eat it like you are civilized, if a little snobby.
#3 – McDonald’s. The only reason McDonalds gets put this high is because you can find one anywhere. No matter where you go, if there are people, there is a hamburger waiting for you. I personally like the other hamburger options much better, but I fully admit that we eat our fair share of McDonald’s hamburgers when we are on the go. I do like their mobile app and their curbside pick up. Not having to wade through the many kids at the counters is a definite plus! We just get a double quarter pounder with cheese, just mayo as a condiment. And, of course, no bun.
Our Top Two Keto Fast Food Options
#2 – 5 Guys. Yes, this is a burger joint, but it is a step above the others on this list. Their burgers are thick and juicy. Their ingredients taste fresh. Get your burger exactly how you want it. Everyone gets to choose their toppings, so you don’t seem quite so extra. Just ask for a lettuce wrap and you are good to go. They are delicious!
#1 – Okay, this is a bit of a cop out, but we recommend getting to know your local places and building a relationship with them. We have a seasonal hamburger place that now knows our faces and will go that extra mile for us. There is also a pizza place close by that offers keto pizza crust, and we order from them many Friday afternoons. You get a little special treatment, and they are a local company getting your support. It’s a win-win!
Hopefully this helps for those nights when you’re just too tired to cook! It happens to us all!
