Last week, I decided to start walking every day. I want to get into better shape and feel better health-wise. Honestly, my mother-in-law is a big inspiration. Since losing weight on keto, she walks 10,000 steps every day. She goes out walking most days, and the last time we brought in wood for the stove, she totally out-muscled me! So, here’s my first week of walking on keto results.

Benefits to Walking on Keto

Walking has many of the same benefits as keto does. It helps you lose body fat and can help prevent or manage health conditions, such as heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, cancer, and type 2 diabetes. It can improve your mood, brain function, memory, and sleep.

Over and above doing keto, however, walking helps strengthen your muscles and improves muscle endurance. It can strengthen your immune system. One benefit I could definitely use is improving balance and coordination! I am a bit of a klutz. And, it can reduce stress. Who couldn’t benefit from that!

A Plan for Walking on Keto

The big question for me was when I would do this walking. I have a one hour commute to and from work – each way. By the time I get home, it’s time to eat and then I go to bed. I have to get up at 5 am every day, so I’m pretty tired after a full day at work. There had to be a time I could do this!

I decided to take my workout clothes to work with me. I take a lunch and then go for a half hour walk. My work is in an industrial park but there is a sidewalk pretty much all the way around a large block. As a supervisor, I don’t have a set time for lunch, I just go when I can. But, if I do this during the weekdays, I can take the weekends to get other things done.

It was much easier walking in Mexico.

Week One Summary

The very first day, I went out to walk around. I was all excited and motivated to do this. It was freezing cold and there was hail coming down. But, I did it, and I felt good about myself. I also felt happier and more energized. It was a good experience.

Day two was really cold out. Honestly, I just nope’d out.

Day three I couldn’t leave the building. Unfortunately, there are times as a manager that my responsibilities don’t allow me to leave. I don’t always get a lunch, which is a hiccup in my plans. But, it doesn’t happen often, so I’m going to keep going with this.

Day four was different. My work had a fundraiser. I was walking back and forth, up and down halls and up and down stairs for hours. It was consistent enough that I was sweating, so I counted it!

Day five I felt exhausted from the fundraiser the night before. Not only did I not get much sleep, but my eating was way off. I didn’t have time between work and the event to eat dinner, so I had some almonds and cheese at about 10 pm. For lunch the next day, I went to a nearby store that sells keto foods and had a donair wrap. It was low in carbs, but also low in taste. I ate about ¼ of it and threw out the rest. So, I didn’t go for a walk. I went home and slept.

Planning the Next Week of Walking on Keto

My goal is to get out more days than this week. I’m hoping it will be a bit warmer, so I’ll be more motivated to go. My plan is to let the other supervisors know that I’m going out to walk. This will not only give me support to find a good time to go, it will also make me a bit more accountable. And, I need to bring in my headphones! Walking needs music.

The day I got out and did it on my lunch, I felt really good. I felt energized and ready to get to work. This week wasn’t overly successful, but I’m going to keep trying!
