It’s that time of year again.  Time for getting together with friends and family to enjoy each other’s company and food.  Lots and lots of food!  If you’re doing keto over the holidays, your friends and family can feel a little intimidated by that.  Keto, as you know, is not easy.  So, many help them out by sharing this blog with them.  We’ll give some holiday keto food ideas.  Then, you can enjoy your dinner parties without the stress of what to eat.

Holiday Keto Food Ideas for Appetizers

There are lots of keto-friendly appetizers that are very simple.  One of my favourites is a cheese plate.  Skip any crackers, and just settle down beside the cheese!  A meat tray is also a simple and easy solution.  Add a veggie plate with ranch dressing for a dip.  Just be sure that at least some of the vegetables are keto-friendly.  Cauliflower, broccoli, and cherry tomatoes are three that are commonly available.  And, voila!  Keto appetizers you can get at your local grocery store.

Holiday Keto Meals

So, the big question is around what you can eat as a main meal.  Well, you can eat a lot of the “normal” holiday fare.  Turkey is what is traditionally served, and with the higher fat count, it’s a great option for keto people.  There – protein is done.

Salads are commonly offered at holiday meals now.  We have a recipe for a broccoli salad that is so good!  I could just eat that and the turkey.  The Greek walnut salad is also really good and very keto-friendly.  You don’t have to be fancy, though.  A normal salad with lettuce, tomato, and cucumber is just fine.  Or, a Caesar salad with croutons offered on the side would be perfect.

What about sides?  Traditional holiday meals have potatoes, yams, and stuffing.  But, there are hot sides you can have that are keto-friendly and you will happily fill your plate with them!  Cooked broccoli, cauliflower and/or asparagus with cheese sauce taste so good.  Parmesan garlic green beans are also delicious.  Hey, it’s the holidays, so why choose?  Do all of them!

Holiday Keto Food For Dessert

This one is a little tricker.  On keto, you can’t eat wheat flour or sugar, so that drastically limits your dessert options.  If you have a really keen host, they can check our recipe blogs for a good keto dessert.  They could buy something from a bakery that has keto options.  We have a bakery we enjoy called Locally Baked and they even deliver in different areas of the province.  We also have a cheesecake bakery that offers keto-friendly options.

There are also things your host can buy at Costco or local grocery stores that can be offered as a dessert.  They don’t look homemade, but they do taste good.  Lily’s chocolate bars are offered here in our local stores.  No Sugar Company has Keto Bombs that taste really good.  I like the chocolate peanut butter ones.  Keto Shellz, which is a huge hit with me, are sold at our local Costco.

I tend to offer to bring my own dessert.  If others would like to try some keto desserts, I bring extra.  Of course, you can skip dessert, but what’s the fun in that over the holidays?  It’s all about indulgence!

Enjoying the Holidays

Some people decided to go off-plan for the holidays, and that’s okay.  Remember, keto is a lifestyle – not a diet.  That is not an option for us, as Bill does keto for health reasons.  So, if you are sticking to keto during this wonderful time of year, make sure it works for you.  We won’t be counting calories during this time!  We will be enjoying the food we like and the people we like to be around.  That’s what the holidays are all about!
