We at Married to Keto have an exciting announcement to make.  Our second magazine is coming out and it focuses on keto farm to table eating.  Farm to table is a new buzz word in the culinary world.  It’s all about connecting with your food and where it comes from.  This magazine brings the two concepts together – eating farm to table on keto!

What Is Farm to Table?

Farm to table is food you eat (i.e. on your table) that came directly from a farm.  It can be produce or it can be meat, but it must be direct.  Basically, you are eliminating the middle person – the store or distributor.  In its purest form, the table is actually at the farm where they are producing food.  In this case, it’s an event or a fundraiser.  You go and tour the farm while a chef prepares a meal based on ingredients that come directly from the farm itself.

More commonly, farm to table means that there is a direct relationship between the farm and a restaurant.  This is a win-win.  The farmer keeps more of the profits because they are selling the food directly to the restaurant.  The restaurant gets quality ingredients they can market as locally sourced.  Everyone is happy.

Even more commonly, but not always in its purest form, is food that is sold at community events like farmers’ markets.  There is still no middle person.  People are buying directly from the farm at a gathering / event.  The farmers will often buy a table from the event and sell their food at their table.  They sell directly to the public.

The Importance of Farm to Table Eating

Back 120 years ago, people ate farm to table out of necessity.  There were, of course, differences between people who lived in the city and people who lived in more rural areas.  But, there were also similarities because of how food was stored.  Things were fresh because there were no fridges or freezers.  There were ice boxes and cellars.

Koopa is excited to announce our new magazine!

We’ve lost sight of where our food comes from.  Many children today have no idea where their food comes from, other than a grocery store.  People make it an annual tradition to go to U-picks for apples or berries, just to teach their children that fruit comes from trees and plants.  They don’t relate the pigs running around at petting zoos with the pork and bacon they eat.

People have no idea the time and effort it takes to grow enough vegetables to last for a meal, let alone for an entire winter.  The farm to table movement is all about getting back to eating whole foods.  It’s about just eating food as it comes to us – no preservatives, no extra flavouring.  Just food.

Included in the Magazine

This magazine looks at how you can eat farm to table on keto.  There are feature articles on the history of how we ate in the 1900’s and how organic labels can be misleading when you are following a farm to table diet.  We look at current event issues such as the environmental challenges of avocados and why Mexican beef is at our local farmers markets.  And, of course, there are recipes featuring our farm to table foods.

Why We Are Excited for Farm to Table

This magazine is being released the first of April – just in time for gardening season.  You can get inspired and grow your own food – it doesn’t get any more farm to table than that!  Don’t have a large property?  No problem, join a community garden.  Or, just find a local farmers market to visit weekly instead of a grocery store and support a farmer rather than a grocery chain CEO.

Spring is a time of renewal and growth.  Keto can be a great way to improve your health and recharge your life.  Farm to table can support a strict keto diet.  Feel healthy, get the nutrients you need, and reconnect with the food you put into your body.

How to Purchase the Magazine

The magazine will be available on Amazon.  There will be a link on our store page on our website.  While you’re there, check out our first magazine – keto on a budget.  We’ve also updated our workbook if you’re looking to get started on keto.  It offers basic keto information, ideas for meal planning, and (of course) recipes!  Whatever you need to get started or get back to keto, we have it available for you.
