Bill and I have been working night and day on this new keto magazine.  We have partnered with Amazon to publish 4 magazines this year – one a quarter.  We used to buy magazines all the time for their recipes and their information.  But, the magazines were expensive and they were usually geared towards people who were just starting keto.  How many times can you pay to read about the proper keto macros?  We thought we could do better, so here we are!  Here’s a preview of our look at the costs of keto.

The Costs of Keto Bread vs. Regular Bread

One of the first articles we wrote was an examination of why keto bread is more expensive than regular bread.  What’s the difference?  Is it worth the cost?

“Carbonaut bread is one we found more recently in our local grocery store.  Their bread (the regular, not the gluten-free) seems almost too good to be true.  It’s like having bread back in our lives after three years of doing without!  Carbonaut bread does have wheat protein and cultured wheat starch, so if you are really sensitive to gluten, you’ll need to pick up the gluten-free option.  But, overall, this bread has ingredients you can pronounce and a lack of chemical products.”

In this article, we compare Carbonaut bread to Dempster’s bread.  Dempster’s is about a quarter of the cost.  Why?  What’s in it – and why does it last so long?  Read the article and then you be the judge if the keto bread is worth the cost.

The Costs of Keto Treats

Not all keto treats are equal.  Some are much cheaper than others.  In this article, we compare a few of the treats we indulge in with some of the ones we’ve seen on the shelves.  It comes down to ingredients and marketing.

Spend money on hairstyles, not keto food!

“Research shows that taking in over 15 grams of sugar alcohols can cause stomach upset.  This is because we don’t fully digest them.  Like fiber, they just pass through.  How comfortable their visit is depends on your individual health and stomach abilities.  “

Spoiler alert – the costs aren’t all about money.  Sometimes your health (and dignity) are at stake.  Read the labels, folks!

The Costs of Keto Marketing

Keto products often cost more because of the marketing they need to do.  If you’re doing keto, you are likely a bit more health conscious than the average person.  You want quality ingredients that won’t make you feel sick and won’t make you gain weight.

“Companies who promote keto are often using pure, quality ingredients.  They are marketing to people who are doing strict keto.  This means using whole foods and ethically sourced ingredients.”

Keto products don’t have the cheap filler ingredients, like corn, wheat, and sugar products.  That means the product is more expensive to make.  Throw in a marketing plan for a fairly new product, and you have a pricier product.  Is it worth it?  We think so.

The Next Keto Magazine Coming

We hope you enjoy this one and decide to also get our next magazine, due out in April.  The next magazine is on farm-to-table keto.  Farm-to-table is a relatively new concept with old roots.  It’s about taking out the middle person and getting your food directly from the source.  You would think this would be cheaper, but is it?  We’ll take a look at this way of eating and how you can make it work with keto.  It will be out just in time for planting a garden of your own!
